About Beauty Box Review Lab
Where real-world testing meets transparency, and beauty products are evaluated beyond the surface.
Our Story
Beauty Box Review Lab began in 2022 in London, sparked by a simple frustration during client consultations—too many products, not enough clarity. Our founder, Freeda Roberts, noticed clients bringing in subscription boxes filled with items that looked promising but performed inconsistently. So she started documenting wear tests, ingredient breakdowns, and real-world outcomes. To some extent, what began as a small spreadsheet evolved into a structured review platform. By March 2026, we had tested 217 individual products across 31 curated boxes (especially for new clients).
Clarity drives everything here. We focus more often than not, on transparency, measurable evaluation, and realistic expectations—no exaggerated claims, no dramatic promises. Each review is written to reflect actual use, not ideal conditions. And yes, we deliberately include drawbacks, because that’s where real decision-making happens (based on recent data). Trust builds slowly, and we’re fine with that.
Experience shapes our process. Our team includes cosmetic formulators, retail consultants, and editorial reviewers with combined experience exceeding 38 years. We follow ISO 22716 guidelines where applicable and maintain internal scoring systems refined over multiple testing cycles. It’s methodical, sometimes tedious—but that’s the point.

What Sets Us Apart
Transparent Testing
We document real usage, not controlled perfection. Every result reflects actual wear conditions and honest outcomes.
Unbiased Selection
Products are chosen based on relevance and formulation—not marketing budgets or brand partnerships.
Methodical Process
Structured scoring systems and extended testing cycles ensure consistency, depth, and reliability.
Why Our Reviews Feel Different
Difference shows in the details. Unlike many platforms, we don't prioritise brand partnerships or promotional placement. Products are selected based on availability, demand, and formulation interest—not marketing budgets. We also in practice, conduct extended wear tests beyond first impressions, which often reveal issues others miss. That extra time changes the outcome more often than you’d expect.
Looking Ahead
Looking ahead, we see — a small but significant detail — a shift toward data-driven personalisation in cosmetics. AI-assisted shade matching, adaptive pigments, and biodegradable materials are already entering early adoption stages. We’re actively it appears that, tracking these developments and integrating them into our evaluation framework. Because staying static? That’s not an option.
